The Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Honours) program of Lincoln University College allows the students with the opportunity to focus on the human body at the molecular, cellular and whole-body levels. They will also acquire knowledge about the disciplines of biochemistry and cell biology, physiology, developmental biology, microbiology, pharmacology, and neuroscience as well as advanced study in research. This course can be a gateway to working in many fields: education, research, sales, medical practice, hospital, and institutional work. Biomedical sciences are the foundation of knowledge for all health care professionals.

Programme Aim

The program aims to create graduates with the essential and advanced knowledge in current concepts of life sciences, physical sciences, and interdisciplinary studies. The objective of the course is to prepare the students in analytical skills and laboratory techniques routinely applied in biomedical research and other essential related skills. The students gain a comprehensive understanding in their field, focusing on ideas, theories and professional practices. The purpose is to apply the knowledge to help the society to develop in a positive way.

Career Opportunities

Graduates have the knowledge and experience appropriate for commencing a career in biomedical research, for example laboratories in hospitals, research institutes, universities or private companies. Entry Requirements

In order to be eligible for the course of study in Health Sciences candidates should have fulfilled the relevant minimum qualifications indicated under one of the following three categories.

Category (1)

(a) Sri Lankan GCE AL: A minimum of 3 "S" passes in the approved AL subjects including Biology and Chemistry

OR

(b) Cambridge/Edexcel AL: A minimum of 3 "E" passes including Biology and Chemistry.

OR

(c) Sat for GCE AL in Biosystems Technology stream including Biosystems Technology and Science for Technology plus successful completion of Lincoln Foundation in Science and Engineering (10 months)

Category (2)

Those without 3 AL passes as indicated in category (1) (a) OR (1)(b) but sat for AL examination in Biology stream AND successful completion of Lincoln Foundation in Science and Engineering (6 month)

Category (3)

GCE OL 6 passes including Maths and successful completion of Lincoln Foundation in Science and Engineering (12 months)

Pearson Higher National Diploma/SQA Advanced Diploma or any other Diploma in relevant field to be considered on case by basis in consultation with Lincoln University
